Dear Parents

We hope you and our students are well and in the best of health. We are now ready to start the next phase of our e learning programme commencing Friday, June 05, 2020 Inshallah. We therefore wanted to update you in this regard and provide some clarity on how we have designed the programme.

The main aim for our e learning programme for the time period June 5, 2020 till July 14, 2020 is as follows:

a)  to ensure active engagement of our children

b)  to teach them the core concepts and skills as per their syllabus from where it was disconnected due to school closure due to COVID 19. This will provide the base for them to be promoted to the next class.

c)  to schedule the programme in a manner that there are minimum clashes in the timetable for students of different classes. This has been done keeping in mind that there may not be IT equipment for every child at home to work on.

d)  to ensure screen time for children is age appropriate and not excessive.

Our online programme is a combination of live interactive teaching along with videos and assignments that students will be required to complete. Live teaching will be done using ZOOM for senior classes (Grade VIII – X ) and through the Google Meet link in Google Classrooms for junior classes (Playgroup till Grade VII). Work for grade levels (II till X) will be posted in the Google classrooms whereas for students of Playgroup to Grade I work will be delivered to their homes bi monthly.

It is imperative for students to attend online lessons and complete their assigned tasks. Student performance will be monitored and e learning will operate as a virtual school. The rules and regulations for students and guidelines for parents will be shared with you. We request you to go through these documents carefully.

Please note this is new for our students as well as for us. We request your support and cooperation to ensure that this is a success Inshallah. As we go through unprecedented times, full of uncertainty, let us join hands together and light the way for our children.

The instructions for our e learning programme and information about promotion are shared herein below for your perusal. If you have any queries you can contact your respective branches. Dear Parents,

The LACAS online programme, eLACAS, will start on Monday June 1, 2020 Inshallah. Google classrooms have been further updated by our Technology Department and instructional videos on how to use the classroom will be uploaded. For your convenience Student IDs will be shared once again with you The teachers will also explain to students the rules and procedures of their new learning environment.

To access eLACAS, students will require access to computers and an internet connection. Since students will be attending classrooms from home, we strongly request our Parents to ensure that they do not interrupt the session between the teachers and students. This is purely a teacher-student interaction and for it to be fruitful and successful we will require all your support. If you have any questions or observations or require any assistance you can contact your respective branch. Telephone numbers will be shared, by your respective branches, with you in this regard.

Online teaching will start on Wednesday June 3, 2020. The structure of eLACAS will be as follows:

REACH The school will develop material for students from PG till Grade 1. These will be physically delivered to students’ houses on a bi-weekly basis. When new material is delivered the school rider will collect the previous work from the students. The previous work will then be marked and returned with the next set of new work. Along with this live online classes will also be held every Saturday for students. Reach students will be engaged by their teachers who will also guide them on their weekly assignment.
Grades 2-5 Live and interactive online classes will be conducted by teachers during the week with special emphasis on English, Math and Urdu. Along with live online classes LACAS will also be posting assignments, projects and instructional videos in Google classrooms.

The programme will continue till July 14, 2020 Inshallah. For Grades 6-8 and Grade 9 and 10 online tests will also be conducted. It is compulsory for students to attend this programme. Class teachers will be monitoring punctuality and attendance. Strict decorum will be maintained in the classes and disciplinary action will be taken against students who violate it.

The online teaching is a new experience for all of us. We will be taking Parental feedback on eLACAS and will be conducting surveys and asking you to fill out feedback forms. The programme has been devised keeping in view both the reality of students working from home and the sibling factor. We have tried our best to ensure that there are minimum clashes in the time for classes.

We thank all our Parents for their support and recognise that without us working collectively together eLACAS will not flourish for our students. As always, we look forward to your cooperation. In these difficult times LACAS will ensure engagement with our students and will provide them with the academic support required.

Lastly on behalf of all of us at LACAS I wish you all and our students a very happy, healthy and safe Eid.

Warm regards,

Eram Abid

Academic Head & Director

May 1, 2020

Dear Parents,

We hope you and our students are in the best of health.

It has been a challenging term for all of us. We are living in extraordinary times. We at LACAS have tried to do the best we could for our students. From uploading work on our website, to initiating Google classrooms, to having online classes for O and A Level students, team LACAS has tried its utmost to ensure our students’ academic life is not unduly affected.

The Department of Academics is working on different strategies depending on when schools reopen. If schools are allowed to open in June, LACAS will NOT have examinations for any grade except A-level. An alternative in the form of formal tests will be conducted. If schools are not allowed to open in June, a different plan will be devised to ensure schooling and teaching remains uninterrupted.

For LACAS to continue providing quality education it is imperative that all fee bills are cleared by the due date. If fee bills are not cleared in a timely manner, it will negatively impact the institution and the services it is able to provide. We therefore request your cooperation in this matter. Otherwise it will simply not be possible for us to meet our expenses. This will adversely impact the education we can provide to our students.

We therefore are forced to take a difficult decision as we can no longer facilitate Parents who have outstanding fee bills. We will be removing students’ names from the school rolls. In the first phase we will be removing names of students who have unpaid dues since prior to Feburary 1, 2020. Parents who fall in this category will need to ensure clearance of all their dues latest by May 15, 2020 if they wish for their children to continue their education at LACAS. Otherwise they will need to make alternative arrangements for their child/ren’s education. Parents with outstanding dues are requested to contact the school on 0335-1118994 and 0335-1118995 for any queries.

LACAS has tried to accommodate its Parents and has facilitated them as best it could. We have always been in compliance with all orders of the courts of Pakistan. The fee structure of LACAS is also as per the orders of the apex court of the country and has been validated by the District Registration Authority (DRA).

Lastly, we would like to extend our gratitude to all our Parents who have appreciated and supported the school’s and staff’s efforts. We are also thankful to those Parents who have provided us with constructive criticism that allowed us to improve our services. It is your support that keeps the institution and its members going.

However, a small number of parents have been spreading negativity and misinformation about the school. Their actions do not help anyone and damage our efforts to educate their children. We urge you to talk directly to the school administration, who are working tirelessly to assist you.

We thank you for your co-operation. If we all work together in good faith, we will Inshallah be able to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

With best wishes
Haroon Ahmed Shabbir

April 12, 2020

Dear Parents.

Fee bills have been sent through courier. For your convenience we have also uploaded all fee information online. The fee information can be accessed by going on the LACAS website and clicking the Fee Bills tab. Alternatively, you can just click on the following link: https://lacas.edu.pk/billing/

You can view the fee information by entering your child/ren’s roll number/Student ID, Campus, Class and Section. If you do not remember your child’s roll number/student ID you can find it on your child’s previous fee bill or contact the school by either calling us on 0335-1118994 / 0335-1118995 or send an e mail on bill.queries@lacas-schoolnetwork.edu.pk

If a Parent does not receive a fee bill through courier they can use the fee information provided online to pay the fee bills. This can be done by going to any Bank Alfalah branch and informing the cashier that the LACAS fee bill needs to be paid. Parents will be required to fill the deposit slip mentioning the student name, the bill number, fee amount and the expiry date of the bill.

To facilitate all Parents we have also organized an online payment system in coordination with Bank Alfalah. Parents can use the ALFA app of Bank Alfalah whether they are account holders or use another Bank. A letter explaining how to use the Alpha app has also been uploaded here for your reference. However please note that the ALFA app can be used only for payment of the current fee bill for the month of April 2020. Earlier fee bills must be paid Over the Counter (OTC) at Bank Alfalah Branches as done in the past. The April 2020 bill can be paid at Bank Alfalah as well as online.

The global health challenge we face is impacting all economies and businesses. In the difficult circumstances, we will try our best to balance the interests of all our stakeholders. Our primary responsibility is to our students and teachers/staff. Our efforts will focus on not compromising on the quality of education that we as an institution take great pride in. To do this we need your support as our parents.

The LACAS fee bill sent to you for the month of April 2020 contains a reduction of 20%. All parents must ensure that this fee bill is paid by the due date of April 22, 2020.

As an additional special concession, LACAS has also decided to waive all fines for fee defaulters of previous fee bills to assist Parents in clearing their outstanding dues. All these outstanding dues must be cleared within the new due date of April 22, 2020.

You will note that there are new higher fine slabs as far as delayed payment is concerned. Timely payment by April 22, 2020 of all outstanding bills will ensure that these fines are not triggered.

Parents of O and A Level students must ensure clearance of all outstanding fee bills for them to be registered as LACAS candidates.

We are sure you will appreciate the efforts that we are making in the present circumstances. It is not sustainable for a school to operate and provide services if dues are not cleared. You are requested to pay your fee bills timely and clear all outstanding dues by April 22, 2020. If this is not done the school Rules and Regulations will apply.

We thank you for your support and cooperation. Together we can meet the challenges that we are facing.

Best regards

FAQ’s A Level

These FAQ’s are based on questions asked by students from both A level campuses as a consequence of the cancellation of the CAIE May/June 2020 examinations. If you have any further queries please email them to your respective campus email address (where you have to send the confirmation of your preferred option). However, please do go through the answers provided very carefully before inquiring further.

LACAS has provided all students with an option to choose either grading for May/June 2020 or the deferral option whereby students appear for their examinations in October/November 2020.

With regards to the grading option LACAS will send grades for each student for each syllabus they have been registered to appear in. As you are aware we maintain a very comprehensive set of data for every student which includes continuous assessments, mid year and final examinations and send up results as well as forecast grades. This data will be the basis of the grades and evidence that we will be sharing with CAIE.

The last date to submit your selection is Wednesday April 15th 2020 via email by 5:00pm. If the school does not receive the email within the stipulated deadline the school will select the grading option for such students.

Q1. Can I give some subjects right now according to option 1 and some in the October/November session?
No, it is not possible to split the papers. Candidates have to opt for either the first or the second choice.

Q2. Will the school tell us the grades that it is sending to Cambridge? If, so can we appeal our expected grades sent by the school? Secondly, can a student opt for the second option once they find out their expected grades?
The school will not be sharing predicted grades with students. This is a highly confidential procedure and any sharing of grades will be considered malpractice by CAIE. Therefore, students need to make realistic decisions based upon their performance during their two A level years. Any students selecting the October/November option will of course be registered as LACAS students.

Q3. What exactly is the evidence that the school will provide to Cambridge? Which monthly tests will be included? Will our O level grades be included? Which class assignments of ours will be taken into consideration?
As stated above, we have very comprehensive data for each student. However, the process of collating and send grades is highly confidential and will not be shared with students. Sharing of such data will be regarded as malpractice by CAIE.

Q4. Is there any sort of appeal system by Cambridge if anyone is not satisfied with their May/June grades and think they should have received a higher grade?
Yes, CAIE have categorically stated that there will be an appeal system but they have not shared the details of the procedure at this time. They will be sharing this information with us in due course.

Q5. If we choose option one will we be allowed to give in new assignments as proof of our progress? Is there going to be a test taken by the school to determine our expected grades for option one?
No, no new work whether assignment or test is to be submitted for option one.

Q6. Can we transfer our May/June session to the October/November one free of cost?
CAIE will update us on whether the fee already paid for the May/June examinations will be the same for the October/November session or revised.

Q7. What will happen to the exam fee we paid for the May/June series? Will we get a refund or will the money be kept by Cambridge and used for whatever review they do on our grades?
If you opt for the grading option CAIE will use the exam fee to offset costs incurred in the grading process. No refund is therefore possible.

Q8. If we opt for option 2 will we have mocks before the October/November exams?
We will try our best to have students as exam ready as in any normal year so yes, we will be taking mocks before the October/November session.

Q9. If by any chance the October/November session also gets cancelled due to the ongoing situation what will happen then?
There is no indication at the moment of such an eventuality arising.

Q10. If we give the exams in the October/November session will we have to take a gap year to do medical in Pakistan?

Questions for specific university courses and admissions should be sent to the Guidance Office at the following email address: counsellor.alevel@lacas-schoolnetwork.edu.pk

Our counsellors are in touch with all universities and will be able to guide you specifically.

Q11. A lot of us didn’t take internal examinations very seriously and instead focused on the actual May/June exam. Will Cambridge take this factor into consideration because we didn’t know that our school grades would directly influence our actual A level grades?
The school will share realistic evidence based grades with CAIE. They have stated that they will be making award grades sympathetically but keeping in view the evidence provided.

Q12. If a student did not appear for the send up examinations and was given grades based on their previous performance in monthly assessments would their grade be effected in any way?
Students will be graded in accordance with evidence available to the school and the objective judgement of teachers. However, reduced evidence may potentially negatively impact the students’ grade as CAIE has explicitly stated that more evidence enables them to make fairer and more accurate decisions regarding grading.

Q13. To what extent can the school guide a student in choosing the right option?
These FAQ’s are attempting to give you all as much clarity as possible. Students are expected to make realistic self-assessment of their performance during their two A level years and make their choice accordingly.

Art and Media portfolio questions:

Q14. If our expected grades will be according to our portfolio then how much time will we get to complete it?
Answer from Ms. Zara Asghar: Portfolio and thesis component for Art & Design should be done with asap since you have been working on them for a while now. Take about a week for both.

Q15. In Media we have an advanced portfolio which is a group based project. So if some people from the group want to go for the October/November session and some want to remain in the May/June one what will happen then?
Answer from Ms. Sara Tareen: The students who wish to continue with May/June series will be graded upon their portfolio preparation, research, blogs and assignments. Due to the cancellation we will not be grading students on a final project as submissions were cancelled. Those opting for the October/November session will be submitting an advanced portfolio.

No. LACAS students have to select one option i.e either the grading option or the deferral option (i.e. taking the examinations in Oct/Nov 2020).

Q. Under the Grading option, will Cambridge refund the money?
No. The grading option will be in lieu of the CAIE May/June examinations. (Already answered this question above)

Q. If a student did not sit either the Sendup or the Mocks (or both), how will they be graded under option 1?
Students will be graded in accordance with the evidence available to the school via continuous assessment, and the objective judgment of teachers. However, reduced evidence may potentially negatively impact the students’ grade – as CAIE explicitly stated that more evidence enables them to make fairer and more accurate decisions regarding grading.

Q. Will the school share the forecasted grades with the students before sending them to the CAIE?
As stated above, the school is required by CAIE to keep the predicted grades strictly confidential.

Q. Will all subjects, including Urdu, be available in the Oct/Nov sitting?
CAIE is trying to make arrangements to offer June syllabuses in November. We are yet to receive confirmation on this. (Already answered this Question above)

Q. What if I was unable to attain respectable grades for a subject throughout the O Level programme, how will I be Graded?
Grades will be based on the evidence available with the school.

Q. If we plan to take the FSc, what is recommended?
The CAIE result under both the option will have exactly the same weightage.

Q. For Urdu B, there is no evidence or records, how will I be graded?
Predicted grades will be sent based on the evidence of the students’ performance in Urdu during their course of study at LACAS.

Q. What is the last date to decide?
The last date to submit your selection is Wednesday, April 15, 2020, via e mail by 5.00pm.

Q. What will happen if we miss the deadline and you do not hear from us by the deadline?
If the school does not receive the e mail sent by students within the stipulated deadline the school will select the grading option for such students.

Q. How will sitting the exams in Oct/Nov affect the A Level admission when the result will be received in January and the classes commence in June?
The A Level classes will commence for all students in June. Details of the school schedule including the orientation will be sent to all students at a later date. If students select the deferral option and are taking their examinations in Oct/Nov they will be given two weeks off for revision to appear for their O Level examinations.

Q. How will both options affect our SAT preparations/exams?
SAT preparation classes will continue as per usual practice.

Q. If we opt for Grading, do we take the remaining Mock Examinations?
No.

Q. Will the online classes continue and what is the use of them now?
Yes. They will help the students to be in touch with their subjects and help them with A Level.

Q. If we opt for the Oct/Nov exams, will the school teach and support us until then and do we have to pay the school fees until Oct/Nov?
Students will be transferred to the A Level programme as stated above. The school will run a crash revision course for students appearing for the O Level examination in Oct/Nov examinations. The fee question has been answered above.

Q. Is it possible that a forecasted ‘A’ might be given a ‘B’ by Cambridge?
The final decision on what grade is to be awarded to students rests with CAIE.

Q. Is it possible for a student to score poorer in the CAIEs than the mocks?
It is possible but unusual. This is not the pattern that we usually witness.

Q. Is there any chance that the Oct/Nov exams may get cancelled or postponed?
No. There is nothing at the moment to suggest this.

Q. Can we appear in two sittings Oct/Nov 2020 and May/Jun 2021?
Yes. The school however, will not take responsibility for the May/Jun 2021 examinations.

Q. Can we appear for additional subjects (grade X) in the Oct/Nov exams?
No. Students can only opt for Pakistan Studies and Islamiat in Oct/Nov.

Q. If I attained As in the last few exams, will my forecasted grade be A*?
The grades given by the school are confidential. However the school will be very fair when reviewing the evidence and sending the grades.

Q. Will the Oct/Nov attempt cause the December exams to be delayed?
We have not finalized the school calendar for the next academic year. But it is definitely something that the school will consider.

Q. For the Oct/Nov exams, who will send our registration, the A level or O Level campus?
The O level campus.

Q. If the Oct/Nov results are in January, will we sit AS exams in June 2021?
LACAS does not offer AS.

Q. Will the academic session run from Sept to May OR Jan to Dec now?
The academic term for the next session 2020/2021 will be from June 2020 till May 2021.

Q. How will the scholarships be offered for students taking the Grading option?
We will be sending you details of this shortly.

Q. Why is A Level starting in June and not September?
The new academic year starts in June 2020 this year. And because of the disruption caused in the previous academic year we are starting the A Level classes early to ensure that all courses are covered and students who are choosing the deferral option are not at a disadvantage.

Dear Parents

This is the third phase of e learning programme launched by LACAS, since the lockdown. In our previous communication with you, LACAS committed to organizing learning through different platforms and phases. LACAS has already:

  • provided learning material for P.G to IX on our school website
  • initiated Zoom classes for Grade X, XI and A-Level

LACAS is now ready to start Google Classrooms for Grades IV-IX.

You can access these classrooms by retrieving the Username and Password assigned to the students by entering Roll No. and selecting Class, Section and Campus at the link https://lacas.edu.pk/elearning/

Those who require tutorials to guide them about joining Google Classrooms can follow the link/s given below:

In case of any queries you may email at: academics.queries@lacas-schoolnetwork.edu.pk

We are sure you understand how challenging it has been for our team to manage all this given the short time period and the fact that we are in a lockdown situation. We look forward to your patience and support.

Stay safe and stay well.

LACAS Admininistration

Note: Directions for tasks are given in each lesson. However, any written assignment can be done in copies/ separate registers/ loose sheets and maintained in a folder to be checked by teachers when the school reopens.

Dear Parents and Students,

We understand this time has been a very stressful one. However rest assured, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that our students receive the best, and fairest, possible chance despite the uniquely troubling times we are in. The Cambridge team in Pakistan has been extremely supportive and is working closely with all schools across the country. The Cambridge Team has provided us with two options, with regard to O/A Level examinations:

  1. A grading option: Students who are choosing the grading option will be evaluated on their performance over the course of their O/A Level programme, which includes internal tests and examinations, predicted grades, school recommendation etc. Cambridge will be in touch and will provide further details for this option. There will be another email sent out shortly, as soon as we receive clarification from Cambridge on the grading option, and we strongly recommend that students and parents consistently check their emails to remain updated and informed.
  2. A deferral option: Students can delay taking their examinations until the Oct/Nov 2020 examination period, with the full support of their institution.

In light of the recent Cambridge announcement LACAS has decided the following:

For A2 Students
a)  LACAS will be providing a choice to all A2 students to either opt for the grading option (as described above) or to appear for their A Level examinations in the October/November options.
b)  For students who desire to start their undergraduate studies in August/September 2020 it may be a good idea to opt for the grading option.

For O Level (Grade 10 and 11) Students

To facilitate O Level students LACAS is recommending students to opt for the grading option (as described above). LACAS will send the data of each child to Cambridge for evaluation.

Please note however if parents and students do not want to exercise this option LACAS will accommodate all students who want to sit for their O Level examinations in October/November.

Way forward for Grade 11

Students of grade 11 will start the A Level programme in June 2020. The school schedule will be sent to students shortly along with details of the orientation week. Students who wish to take their O Level examinations in October/November 2020 will be given two weeks off for guided revision and time off for their examinations. School will resume after the O Level examination session to ensure that students do not fall behind on their A Level course.

As a consequence of the disruption to this academic year, we do anticipate a fall-out in the next academic year. However we will try and keep this to the minimum by starting the A Level courses in June and by reorganizing the A Level calendar in the next academic year.

Students of grade 10, 11 and A2 are requested to please submit their choice to the following e mail addresses latest by Thursday April 9, 2020. The e mail must include the students’ name, father’s name. roll number and/or NIC number and clearly state which option they will go for. Option 1 grading option and option 2 October/November option.
