Early Years Programme: The Building Blocks of Education

The Early Years Programme (EYP) at The Milestone School is designed to provide a safe, supportive, and innovative environment where children can learn through exploration, play, and discovery. The programme caters to the developmental needs of the child and lays down a strong foundation for success in learning for life through cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development.

Our Educational Approach at TMS

Thematic Inquiry-based Learning (Knowledge of the World)

Thematic Inquiry-based Learning (Knowledge of the World) method at TMS organises the curriculum around broad themes, enabling children to explore different subjects in an integrated and engaging manner. This approach fosters active engagement and nurtures curiosity, allowing children to explore various topics through inquiry and investigation.

Concrete, Pictorial & Abstract Learning

TMS employs a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract learning approach, which recognises that children develop understanding in stages. Starting with hands-on, concrete experiences, children then move to pictorial representations before advancing to abstract concepts, helping them build a deeper understanding of complex ideas.

Parental Involvement

TMS believes that parental involvement is essential in early childhood education. Parents are the first educators of their children, and TMS actively encourages collaboration between parents and teachers. This partnership is crucial in supporting the academic and emotional development of children.

Child-centred Approach

Children have diverse learning styles, abilities and interests. We promote individualised instruction, adapting teaching strategies and activities to meet the needs and learning styles of each child, acknowledging the fact that each child is unique and has his/her interests, strengths and needs.

Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education (P.S.H.E)

Focuses on fostering children's personal, social and health development. It includes promoting self-awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, empathy and physical well-being. The part of the curriculum incorporates activities that support the development of these areas holistically.

Safe and Supportive Environment

A safe and supportive environment is essential for children's well-being and learning. It involves establishing clear expectations, creating a positive classroom culture, and fostering respectful and inclusive interactions. Our environment allows children to take risks, express themselves and develop social-emotional skills.

Inclusive Education

Our curricula promote inclusive practices that ensure all children, regardless of their abilities, backgrounds, or differences, have equal access to education. It values diversity and creates an inclusive environment that celebrates and respects individuality.

Building Strong Foundations for the Future

The early years are the most significant stage in a child's educational journey. At TMS, we inspire children to become confident learners, creative thinkers, effective communicators, and caring individuals. Through a balanced blend of academic readiness, inquiry, play, and character development, we equip every child with the skills, values, and confidence to thrive in primary school and beyond.
